How to record a bug report video developers can actually use

Show the bug in the first five seconds

Open the recording on the problem itself, not on a tour of your desktop. A developer scrubbing for the moment things break should find it immediately. If the bug needs setup, record the setup as a fast, silent run-through after the failure is shown.

Record the steps that lead to it

A crash at the end of a long session tells half the story. Once you have shown the failure, record the path that causes it: which page you opened, what you clicked, what you typed. Reliable reproduction steps are the difference between a fix today and a "cannot reproduce" reply next week.

Say what you expected

The most useful sentence in a bug video is the comparison: "I pressed export and expected a PDF; the button flashed and nothing downloaded." Expected versus actual turns a confusing clip into a precise report. Say it out loud or add it as a caption - just make sure it is there.

Keep it short and keep the sound honest

Two minutes is plenty for most bugs. Leave the system sounds and your clicks audible; they confirm what actually happened on screen. Skip background music - it hides the audio cues and makes transcription harder.

Attach the boring details

Next to the video, add the text the video cannot show: your device and operating system, browser or app version, whether the bug happens every time or sometimes, and a second account or network if you tested one. In Solivid you record free with no watermark and no time limit, files stay on your device, and you can trim the clip before you share it.
