How to record a screen tutorial that works on the first take

Start with one goal, not a tour

A tutorial that tries to show everything teaches nothing. Decide the single thing the viewer should be able to do after watching - "create a project and invite a teammate" beats "a look at the app". Write that sentence at the top of your notes and cut anything that does not serve it.

Walk the path once before recording

Click through the exact steps you will show, in order, and write them down as a short list. This dry run catches the surprises that ruin takes: a dialog you forgot, a loading screen, a setting that was not where you remembered. Keep the list next to you while recording.

Clean the stage

Close every tab and window you will not use. Silence notifications. Hide bookmarks bars and personal information, and set the browser or app to a comfortable zoom so text is readable on a phone. A tidy screen keeps attention on the steps, not on your desktop.

Narrate the why, not just the click

Say what you are about to do before you do it: "I am opening settings to change the default format". The viewer hears the intention, then sees the action. Pause for a breath after each step - silence is easy to trim, rushed steps are not.

If you slip, pause and repeat

Do not restart the whole recording for one stumble. Stop talking, wait a second, and say the line again. The quiet gap makes the mistake simple to cut. In Solivid you record free, with no watermark and no time limit, and your files stay on your device while you edit.
